By Milton Tella – A delegation of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZUBEB batch B) who were in the United Kingdom on a study tour for capacity building paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria High Commission London on Thursday, 24 November 2022.
In his welcome address to the delegation, His Excellency, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola OFR, laid emphasis on technical education.
Ambassador Isola advised the team to select some Zamfara schools for peer review with schools in Britain. He also advised that the delegation should ensure a follow up course to evaluate the achievement and not make it a one off study tour.
The head of delegation, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Children Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi said, “This trip to the UK has exposed the team to skills that will be imparted on students in Zamfara.”
She said, “Insecurity is a major issue for us in Zamfara, of the over 200 schools available about 25 are currently closed down.
With this study tour to the UK, we are in a position to begin to implement the skills acquired.
Our state government has demonstrated interest in enhancing the education of the Almajiri, the Islamic and the Nomadic school children.”
Maazi Godson Azu, Consultant and tour coordinator in his vote of thanks, appreciated the High Commissioner of Nigeria to the UK for making time out of his very busy schedule to receive them.
