Nigeria wins UK Diplomatic League Cup 2021

The football team representing the Nigerian High Commission London has won the UK Diplomatic League Cup for the Year 2021.

Nigeria beat Spain 3 – 0 during the final match, which took place on Saturday 24 July 2021 in London. On Saturday 10 July 2021, Nigeria defeated Ecuador and on Saturday, 17 July 2021 Nigeria beat Ireland team 3 – 2 to qualify for finals.

The Nigerian team presented the cup to His Excellency, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola. In his congratulatory message to the team, Ambassador Isola said, “You have done Nigeria proud and we do appreciate you”. He promised to present the cup to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama who will also have to present it to the President of the Federal republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR. 

His Excellency, Geoffrey Onyeama while receiving the trophy from Ambassador Isola, said, this is just a reflection of your unity of purpose, your dynamism and positive qualities you have brought to the Mission. You can see the people are responding very positively.

Viva Nigeria and viva the UK Mission. You should keep it up. Congratulations to your leadership and to the team.”
