Kenneth Okonkwo is best known as a successful Nigerian actor, popular for his role in the movie “Living In Bondage” in 1991. Okonkwo was born in Nsukka, Enugu State. In 2013 he won the African Movie Academy Award on a Special Recognition of Pillars of Nollywood. He announced his intention to run while on vacation in London on a programme, Africa Alive, an online YouTube channel of African Voice, Britain’s N0.1 African Newspaper.

Kenneth said, “I just declared my intention to contest for the governorship candidacy in Enugu State, Nigeria on the platform of All People’s Congress (APC), before coming on vacation to London. It was heart-warming to receive the blessings of the immediate past governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory,”

“I am grateful to the Igbo Community in London for endorsing my candidacy, just as a gold fish has no hiding place, they know that my past and current works speak for me. They have the confidence that l will deliver on my promises.”

Kenneth will make history if he becomes the first actor turned politician to govern a state in Nigeria. One of his colleagues, actor Yul Edochie, lost his bid for the gubernatorial seat in Anambra State in 2017. But if he wins in the forth coming election, he will be joining actor Desmond Elliot, who is already a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Dr. Kenneth Okonkwo, a 52-year-old veteran actor, lawyer turned politician, says, he is motivated by the passion to be of service to the people of Nigeria more than anything else.
