How you can get multiple scholarships for postgraduate studies in the UK, Canada, USA, EU or Australia particularly if you are an African.

[The myths and reality of winning 100% free scholarship to enjoy Masters or PhD degrees]

Professor Chris Imafidon, provides insights on how even the weakest students can get many scholarships via the optimum mentorship, methodology, mentality and multiplicity.

According to President Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon that can change the world” And based on my past observation, LEARNING is the most potent force that can determine the success or failure in any profession in any country. It easily elevates one’s professional status and guarantees prosperity particularly if it is supported by the optimum mentorship.

MENTORSHIP

Following my recent interview in the Sunday Times (UK), I have had a flood of emails from parents and recent graduates… asking “How can one get scholarships for postgraduate studies in the UK, USA, Canada, EU or even Australia?” The answer is very simple. There are very common characteristics in all the students that I have assisted in get many scholarships, it does not matter if you are male or female, or African. The key factor is your willingness to be mentored. Mentorship guarantees success every time. Those that are afraid of simple tests such as GMAT, GRE, IELTS, or other language tests need to be shown the #GeniusFormula. This is because it works on anyone irrespective of your past academic ability, or your last scores or grades of previous graduation. Yes indeed I have seen very weak students with 3rd class success beat those with 1st class degrees and win multiple scholarships in many specialisms because of this simple fact. The myth is that if you have a brilliant GPA, then you will win scholarships. NO! Each scholarship programme has its own requirements. Their set of requirements is very unique to the institution and department.

METHODOLOGY

For examples there are specific language tests required to access academic literature which is very different from general usage or surviving a different linguistic environment. One big resource and often the most frequently ignore is the online as a big tool. As part of the #GeniusFormula, you will soon get to know that your relationship with technology is far more important that your Intelligence Quotient (IQ), or how smart or clever that you think you are.  The tools that you deploy will quickly show how long you have to work. Tools can be time saving or time wasting, depending on the quality of your mentorship.

Another example is if your SOR is strong and links up well with your past interest as demonstrated by your LinkedIn page. Most applicants or first degree holders do not have a LinkedIn profile, or page. They hold on to the most outdated approach of resume, or curriculum vitae (CV). This approach belongs to the prehistoric world or at best pre-covid existence. Things have moved on. Postgraduate studies in every field in the UK, USA, EU, Australia or Canada assumes knowledge and skills in online research and use of technological tools including app-based phones, tablets or laptops. So during your selection process you must DEMONSTRATE these skills. You cannot just list them under one paragraph.

MENTALITY (MINDSET)

Some people have a mentality that if a teacher is not standing in front of them, they can never learn anything. This is the single most damaging mindset in a failed scholarship application.

So, the ability to independently research is another characteristic that will determine the success of any scholarship application. In my recent online seminar, I took every participant to an online search engine to search for some keywords and test their outcome. I was surprised at the percentage of prospective scholars who struggled with a very basic search.

MULTIPLICITY (MANY PATHS)

It is particularly sad that many good candidates who would have been successful in gaining British or Canadian scholarships limit their options, or choice of specialisms because of the limited information on the various pathways. In my recent scholarship seminar, a lady whose application has been rejected several times did not know of related or similar pathways that led to the same destination or end result. For example educational informatics, or clinical informatics share so much in common that 60% of the initial knowledge is exactly the same. So many applications will be successful if the applicant has this basic understanding. There are specific musical scholarships, sporting scholarships, choral scholarships and even language based scholarships. Some of these are under-subscribed. This means less than 60% of spaces are filled every round because of low uptake from qualified students.

Finally, the essential difference between a great versus a mediocre candidate for scholarship is much more than previous grades. Success belongs to those of you who can demonstrate capability with new technological tools; self-confidence; resilience; and basic leadership.

Leadership implies independence, organization and courage – all positive attributes for a scholarship candidate. More free online seminars for Africa or commonwealth based students are available at www.Imafidons.com
