Marvel recently revealed that it would be releasing new original Spidey films, and fans took to twitter saying they’d had enough of the Peter Parker storyline and instead want a film depicting the story of younger Spiderman, Miles Morales.

Miles Morales was first introduced by Marvel in an animated Disney series where Spiderman existed in an alternate-alternate universe as a 13 year-old half black, half Hispanic boy.

The series titled Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, depicted Morales taking over the role of Spiderman following the death of Peter Parker. Like Parker, Morales was gained his powers after being bitten by a spider, however he was reluctant to use them until after Parker’s death.

If Marvel actually go through with creating a movie based on Miles Morales as Spidey, fans have also picked out who they would like to see play the role: Rapper and comedian Donald Glover, who was the voice of Morales in the animated series.

Whether or not Sony and Marvel are likely to give the people what they want, and adopt Miles Morales as the new Spidey is, at the moment, uncertain.

While some believe that it can and should happen, Ari Arad and Matt Tolmach, the pair behind the Spiderman film franchise claim it will basically squish Spiderman into obscurity.

“The one thing you cannot do, when you have a phenomena that has stood the test of time, you have to be true to the real character inside – who is Peter Parker? What are the biggest effects on his life? Then you can draw in time, and you can consider today’s world in many ways. But to have multiple ones… I don’t know if you remember, but Marvel tried it. And it was almost the end of Spider-Man,” Arad said in an interview with IndieWire.

Still, it should be noted that the pair apparently have no say in creative decisions, and since it’s almost certain that previous Peter Parker actor Andrew Garfield will not be returning, young Miles might be in with a fighting chance.

“Miles Morales was a huge moment in this character’s comic book life,” Garfield told Comic Book Resources. “And I do believe that we can do that [on screen]. It’s something I’m really interested in figuring out; an eloquent way of coexisting, or passing on the torch.”
