Commonwealth Scholars paid courtesy visit to the Nigeria High Commission London

By Milton Tella – The High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom, His Excellency, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola OFR, received a delegation of the Nigerian Commonwealth Scholar’s Networking Event, who paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria High Commission London on Friday, 28 October, 2022.

The team was led by Miss Olamide Eso (Event Initiator) with 31 Scholars and 12 delegates from the Home Office. These are students undergoing postgraduate studies at various Universities in the UK under the Commonwealth sponsorship Scheme.

In his welcome remark, His Excellency, Ambassador Isola, expressed his appreciation to the scholars for their decision to visit the High Commission London. He said that he was very delighted to receive them at the Mission as someone who has passion for mentoring young people and following their progress. He stressed that the youths have greater roles to play in the development of Nigeria.

The High Commissioner implored the scholars to inculcate and deepen the virtues of values in their behaviour to enable them excel in life and in leadership positions.

Ambassador Isola briefed the delegation on the role of the Mission in promoting trade, tourism, investment and cooperation in education, health and security between Nigeria and the UK, among other areas. He outlined consular services rendered by the Mission to Nigerians living in the UK and those visiting.

The delegation led by the Event Initiator, Miss Olamide Eso, discussed issues relating to their studies and expressed commitment to utilise the skills and expertise acquired from their studies for the development of their nation, Nigeria.

Speaking with African Voice, one of the students said, “It was such a great honour to be received by the High Commissioner of Nigeria to the UK. Hearing the mission’s mandate and focus areas was a key take away. Thank you again for hosting us. It is very much appreciated.”

Commonwealth Scholarships in Nigeria are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to pursue a one-year taught Master’s degree programme at any UK university, they provide a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture and build lasting positive relationships with the United Kingdom.
