Côte d’Ivoire’s ex-Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is far from ready to hang up his scoring boots if news of interest from at least three clubs bears fruit.
Although his future remains uncertain for now, Chicago Fire from the United States’ MLS are said to have been talking to the man who led Chelsea’s attack through the club’s most successful period ever.
Chicago’s Atul Khosla revealed on Twitter that his club has been in regular dialogue over the past 3 weeks with Drogba and his representatives. Also on Twitter, Khosla posted:
“Working to get Didier Drogba to #cf97, would love to have him, have been going through discovery process as we have the rights Looking to clear the air #cf97.”
However, the UEFA Champions League winner has also been linked with a move to Italy’s Serie A. L’Equipe claims to have been informed by its sources that Inter Milan have contacted the player.
It is understood there are also offers in the wings for him to play in Qatar or to return to the Chinese Super League, where he played after the end of his first spell with Chelsea in 2012.
MLS side Montreal Impact’s owner Joey Saputo has also revealed his desire to have Drogba.
“There was a short period in time where Chicago felt they weren’t interested in the services of Didier Drogba, for whatever reason. The league gave other clubs the opportunity to speak to them, so when the league contacted us about Didier, we said ‘Absolutely, we’re very interested,” said Saputo.
If Drogba ends up playing Major League Soccer, he may find himself playing against friend and former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard and former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, both of whom have joined MLS clubs for this season.
