“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” Rom. 8:37.
By Michael Adekoya – Dear Reader, glory be to God for another week to learn at His feet. In part 1 of this article, three major categories of people was mentioned, that is, the conquered, the conquerors and more than the conquerors. The first two major sets of people have been extensively explained, therefore in this week’s article we shall be looking at the last major sets of people – more than the conquerors.
My Friend, as previously mentioned, Jesus is “the Conqueror” of all the “Conquerors”. He single handedly conquered sin, death, hell, flesh, Satan, the world, poverty, curses and triumph over the visible and the invisible situations that are out there to conquer. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Prophet Isaiah wrote in Isa. 63:1 that “Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength?— “I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”” A question was asked, who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments? The answer came, “I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save”. Our Saviour single handedly conquered all that were to conquer for us without leaving anything unconquered. In verse two, another question was asked, “Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?”. That is, why were You covered in blood? He then answered in verses 3 to 6 that, ““I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes. For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come. I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me. I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth.”
My Friend, as you can see from the above passage, Jesus is the real, ultimate and the divine Conqueror. Out of His conquests we have our own spoils, conquests and blessings. None of us have no glory to share or to claim. He owns all the glory, all the honour and all the praises now and forever more. Therefore, He deserves all our love, worship and praises, to Him alone be all the glory. Having conquered all for us, by simply putting our faith in His Person and His finished works, my friend, you’re now more than the conqueror. So who are these sets of people that are more than the conqueror?
The more than the conquerors are those who defeated their opponents hands down. In a football match for example, if the final score of a football match is 10:0 we know that the opposition put up a fight, but they were no match for the winners. The score is beyond the scope of a regular victory. As Believers, in Christ, we did not just narrowly defeat the devil, we have completely beaten him black and blue. The Bible says, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Col. 2:15. See yourself as a victor in Christ, devil has been defeated for you by our Lord. Possess winning mentality in any situation you may find yourself, you’re not fighting for victory but from victory.
More than the conquerors are those who triumph over the enemy greater than them. If Goliath beat David, it won’t be a news, but because David triumphed over Goliath who was more experienced, bigger, armed, equipped and sophisticated than him, then it became an headline, a breaking news and a front page news. As believers, we are no match of the devil, he is experienced than us, he has been falling mighty men than us, such as Adam, Samson, Saul and so on. But in Christ, we have complete victory over him, therefore it’s a breaking news, we are more than the conquerors. The Bible says, “which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Eph. 1:20-23.
My friend, you can not overcome the devil through any other means, power, charms, babalawo, incantation or through any sacrifice by any idol. The only way you can conquer him is to put your faith in Jesus who had defeated him for us. Stop going ups and downs, stop looking for any help any where, help can only be found in Christ, “the Conqueror”. Jesus did not only conquer Satan for us, He also shared the blessings of His conquests for us without raising a finger to fight, without us present or did anything in the battle. The story of the four lepers in 2Kings chapter 7 is our story too. The Bible says that those that planned to surrender themselves to be conquered, were not only alive, but they became wealthy, rich, celebrities, good news carriers and givers. 2Kings 7:8-9 “And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it. Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king’s household.””
These four lepers overnight became beneficiaries of the battle they never fought or won. These were indeed more than conquerors! They began to eat and to drink in abundance, God fought the battle supernaturally for them, only what they were doing was to enjoy the spoils of the battle they never engaged in. As Believers, we are enjoying abundant life, sound health, peace of mind, riches, power, honour and longevity in Christ without engaging in any physical battle, my friend, we are more than the conquerors. Why can’t you join us if you’re yet to be a Believer in Christ? All what you’re struggling to get by your physical efforts can simply be obtained by living faith, trust, obedience and simple prayer in Christ.
Through the fall of our first parents, Adam and Eve, the devil stole our birthrights, blessings, power and authority. No wonder he told Jesus, “And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.” Luke 4:6. But when “the Conqueror” final defeated him, He declared, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Matt. 28:18. We are now more than the conqueror as we have regained back the stolen authority and power from the usurper, using it to terrorise him, his demons and all his human agents, unfortunately there’s nothing they can do. Ps. 23:5 say, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.” Can you say it loud, “I am more than the conqueror through Christ that loved me!”
My friend, as Believers in Christ, we are more than the conquerors in the sense that we did not only conquer the devil in Christ, we got back all what he had stolen from us from the first Adam through the Last Adam, we are enjoying it in his presence having rendered him and his agents powerless, he has also become our slave. In 2Kings 6:15-20, the armies that were sent to arrest Prophet Elisha, were blindfolded, he began to command and to direct them. My friend, that’s what Jesus has made the devil and his agents to be in our hands. In Christ now, having submitted your life to Him, you can command the devil and he’ll flee from you – Jam. 4:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” You’re no more like the seven sons of Sceva who demons challenged their rights and authority, “And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.” Acts 19:15-16.
Having surrendered your life to Jesus, my friend, you need to know who you are in Him, love Him by obeying His word, remain in constant union and fellowship with Him, be courageous, walk and live by faith in Him, as you do so, you shall be operating in the level of more than the conquerors. You shall walk in perpetual victory, challenges will surely come, but your victory in Christ is certain, not because of what you’ve done or can do, but all because of what He had done. Refuse to be part of the conquered, be a conqueror but better still, be more than the conqueror. Give “the Conqueror” all the glory at all times, live to please Him, love Him with all your heart, with all your might and with all you have. Nothing you have that does not come from Him. Be humble and accredit all glory to Him always for all things in your life. Possess winning mentality, challenge and confront your fears, you can not loose in life if you depend on Him, don’t look for any other alternative, hang on to Him, never give up, quitters never win and winners never quit. In Christ, you’re more than the conquerors, think like that, walk like that and live like that. Fellow more than the conquerors, remain blessed!
