Manchester City midfield general Yaya Toure has hailed his wonder goal in last weekend’s Capital One League Cup final as probably the best he has ever scored.
The Ivorian’s strike drew his team level after they fell behind to a shock goal from Sunderland, who were rank outsiders to upset the multi-million Manchester outfit. City had dominated play in the first half but had failed to test the Sunderland goal.
Toure’s 30-yard curler galvanised his team in the second half and the result was no longer in doubt after teammate Samir Nasri and then Jesus Navas also scored, ensuring the formerly ‘noisy neighbours’ to the out-of-sorts Reds down the road began their assault on four fronts with the season’s first available silverware safely in their trophy cabinet.
Asked if the goal was the best he has ever scored, Toure told Sky Sports, “I think yes. It was important as well and it was fantastic and Samir scored a fantastic goal as well and I think we played very well today and deserved to win.”
Toure admitted it was vital for City to win as they look to maintain their push for glory in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
“It was unbelievable. We needed to win today, it was very important,” he said, adding: “Sunderland made it difficult for us in the first half, but I think it’s unbelievable and we deserve it.
“The final is only one game, you need to enjoy it and you need to win it and I think today we showed we are a great team and we showed we can go until the end of the season.”
