On the evening of March 15th 2018, pioneering World Foods brand Tropical Sun hosted the UK’s African and Caribbean media and promoters at the headquarters of Wanis: the UK’s leading distributor of African and Caribbean food and drinks brands, including Tropical Sun.
Organised in collaboration with ethnic communications agency Rich Visions, the event was a UK media milestone, bringing together an unprecedented number of influential African and Caribbean executives, journalists, presenters and personalities.
The event’s primary focus was detailing the 22-year history of Tropical Sun Foods, beginning with the brand’s origins, moving through product development and culminating on community collaboration, and amongst others the brand’s work within BAME communities, including their Classrooms for Jamaica, Marfo Children Care Foundation and Sickle Cell UK projects.
Attendees were served with international food made with Tropical Sun products including jerk chicken, jollof rice and spiced bun ‘n’ cheese.
Following presentations by the brand’s directors, marketing director and brand manager, media were invited to ask questions, give feedback and put forward ideas – and the event was brought to a close with warm and productive conversations between brand representatives and media members.
World Foods pioneer Tropical Sun was founded in 1996 when it began importing a few specialist ingredients and daily essentials for the UK’s thriving ethnic communities. 22 years on, it’s range boasts over 450 products including drinks, sauces and seasonings from sunshine countries including Jamaica, Nigeria, USA, Thailand, Ghana, Barbados and more.
