Tina Turner has moved quickly to scotch rumours that she has suffered a stroke.
Several German and Dutch publications claimed the 74-year-old fell ill last February, but was on the mend. However the legendary singer’s spokesperson has blasted the claims: “The fact is that Tina enjoys excellent health.”
German news source Express reported that Turner’s driver Albert B. Cologne confirmed the stroke, saying, “She had a mild stroke, but is well on the road to recovery.”
He also allegedly said: “Tina had to cancel her holiday to recover; she has already managed a smile for her partner Erwin Bach.”
The website has since deleted the story; with Turner’s rep insisting the performer does not have a driver named Cologne and never planned a trip to Carinthia.
This is the second time representatives have been forced to silence rumours about the retired rocker’s health in the media. Friend Oprah Winfrey was called on to rubbish similar claims that Turner had suffered a stroke made back in February.
“Tina had a bad flu weeks ago,” she wrote on Twitter. “She’s recovered. And LIVING life! Sent me a single long-stem red rose for my birthday.”
Turner has made a home in Switzerland with husband Erwin, a German music executive, for several years, and was reportedly last seen on Thursday at the launch of her new album in Zurich looking happy and healthy. The couple married at a private ceremony in Switzerland – where the couple now reside – last year.
