The Subterfuge raises the bar for UK Nollywood

By Milton Tella – Nollywood’s latest film, The Subterfuge wowed UK film lovers at the premiere in London, with many at the edge of their seats from start to finish.

UK Nollywood has produced a number of films in collaboration with Nigerian based actors in the past but one may say, The Subterfuge took the audience on an unpredictable suspense-filled entertainment.

Many of the film producers, actors and practitioners alongside film critics present at the London screening of The Subterfuge, rated the film as possibly, the best film produced by UK Nollywood in recent time.

The Broadway Theatre Cinema Barking, London, was filled to capacity on the evening of Friday 17th November 2023, with film enthusiasts from across the UK communities, who gathered to watch the latest of the Nollywood film, directed by award winning Biodun Stephen, who flew in specially from Nigeria to attend the premiere.

The Subterfuge featured a blend of cast and crew from Nigeria and some members of the UK Nollywood. Kudos to the cast and crew for such an awesome production especially, Zainab Popoola who played the role of Anna, Anthony Majaro as Kenneth was quite outstanding. All the other actors carried their roles very well including Cordelia Emeh as Nma who was also the Executive Producer, Jessica Obasi as Bella, Timilehi Ojeola as Jerome, Dior Adiele as Augusta, Uzor Arukwe as Mark, Eso Dike as Daniel, Patrick Diabuah as Barrister, Oloruntoba Aboyeji as Kigho, Juanita Emeh as Tina and Sarah Egbegbe producer.

Notable special guests present included veteran actress Princess Golda Abiola and Prince Mike Abiola Publisher of African Voice Newspapers UK and founder of African Film Awards, HrH Princess Moradeun Adedoyin Solarin, broadcaster and Nollywood writer, Chief (Dr) Malcolm Benson President of the Producers Guild of UK Nollywood, Marc Adebesin UK Nollywood producer, Roseline Sanni Ajose actress and producer with her husband Dr Ajose, Chief Ayo Oyebade and his wife Theodora Oyebade President Actors Guild of UK Nollywood, Ayan De First – (Mr Culture), Sunny Faseun, David Idiabana, Riyike Alayande, Mrs June & Dr Boma Douglas and many others.

The Subterfuge

In the aftermath of a fatal accident that claims the lives of Kigho and Mark, Bella and her son Jerome are thrust into a world of deception and intrigue. Bella’s supposed best friend, Anna, weaves a tangled web of lies, manipulating relationships and unearthing dark secrets. As the truth emerges, Bella must confront betrayal and deceit, all while protecting her family.
