The UK-Nigeria Diaspora Covid-19 Response Consortium is raising awareness on the reality of the pandemic in Nigeria by organising a must attend conference on Saturday 28 August 2021.
Curbing the waves of Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria is of utmost concern to most of the citizens across the world. The conference is therefore of paramount importance to all Nigerians and especially all healthcare professionals.
With the occurrence of the third wave of the pandemic and development of variants of the virus, this conference under the auspices of the UK-NGR DIASPORA COVID19 RESPONSE CONSORTIUM, a non-governmental group, will be addressing the controversies about the Covid19 pandemic in Nigeria.
The objective of the conference is to minimise the loss of lives as a result of the COVID19 pandemic through the provision of accurate information.
In a chat with African Voice, Prof. Rotimi Jaiyesimi, co-ordinator of the conference said, “Attendees will listen to patients who have had the infection and from experts involved in the vaccine development, trials, treatment of patients, the sourcing and distribution of vaccines in Nigeria.”
The conference will also discuss the use of the vaccines in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. The importance of the public adhering to the non-pharmaceutical measures (appropriate use of face masks, physical distancing and hand hygiene) amongst other concerns.
The speakers include Dr Olorunimbe Mamora (Minister of State for Health), Dr Sani Aliyu (former Coordinator, Presidential Task Force on Covid19), Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa (CEO, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM), Prof Akin Abayomi, (Lagos State Health Commissioner), Dr Onyema Ogbuagu (Principal Investigator, Pfizer Covid Vaccine Trial), Dr Bernard Ezigbo(Critical Care Specialist, USA), Prof Baba Inusa (Chairman, England National Haemoglobinopathy Panel), Dr Oluseyi Falade(General Practitioner) and a COVID-19 survivor among other speakers.
The Question & Answer session affords participants (members of the public) to seek clarity about issues related to the COVID19 pandemic and the vaccination program in Nigeria.
The conference is supported by the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the African Voice Newspaper, UK.
