The Chairman Senate committee on media and public affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi representing Niger North has rolled out his committee’s work plan to re- position the media and public affairs of the Senate and how to communicate the Senate workings as appropriately as possible. The Senator who has good governance as his target achievement is keen to put in new innovations and inject new ideas into how the media will project the image and integrity of the senate better than what its getting at the moment.
The committees are essential part of the Senate we will create information sheet for people to locate what information to need and see Senate as a resource reservoir. “We want to improve the reputation of the Senate and ensure that the nation is properly governed” the essence of the strategy document and situate and assign roles. We want to have a budget anchored on clear purpose. The Senator noted that the Senate should engage in community focus based enlightenment programmes. They plan to add some innovations like senate town hall meetings to connect with the people more and open to discussions around the workings of the senate. According to him people will see senate as a partner in the development of Nigeria. We want to make all stakeholders to be involved and move forward. They plan to introduce capacity building for the press men to help them work better. Communication plan will be done in a way to target the public and improve the general internal information workings of the National Assembly.
