Security of Tertiary Institutions Are Paramount: Senate Committee Chairman

•Jamb Conducts Exams in London and Eight Other Countries

By Ngozi Oluwole – The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary institutions and TETFUND, Senator Dandutse Mohammed, has said that the Federal Government takes the security of lives at Nigerian universities and other institutions of higher learning “seriously.”

Speaking to newsmen at the Nigerian High Commission on Saturday 13 July 2024, after overseeing a couple of candidates write this year’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB examination, Mohammed, who addressed the press alongside his House of Representatives counterpart, added that security of lives at the institutions are paramount and hence, “we’re tackling the challenges “ of insecurity.”’

In order to further enhance security in both the country at large and at the tertiary institutions, Mohammed, himself a PhD candidate, disclosed that the:” NSA; “National Security Adviser is working hard with others to ensure and improve security.”

This, he noted, is the reason why “ they’re engaging herdsmen” so as “ to guarantee- the- security of students.” As part of the efforts to tackle insecurity, he said: ”we’re coming up with laws,” to tackle it

To compliment government’s efforts, the senator stated further that “our universities are doing perfectly well to tackle their challenges.”

Asked if the prospective undergraduates will have access to student loans, Mohammed replied in the affirmative. “All students will benefit” from the facility. Both the senator and his House of Representatives counterpart also expressed delight that: “many parents are encouraging their children to come back home to Nigeria to study .”

JAMB, Mohammed noted further, conducts the entrance examination to Nigerian universities in wight countries apart from the United Kingdom. This, he said, includes South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
