A fan has claimed she contracted herpes from a used Rihanna-branded MAC lipstick handed out to her and numerous others at the singer’s concert in New York last month.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, 28-year-old Harlem waitress Starkeema Greenidge said that a MAC employee applied a sample of the star’s trademark RiRi Woo red lipstick to her mouth when she visited a pop-up cosmetics stand at Rihanna’s 7 May Manhattan show.
Greenidge alleges that the lipstick had already been used. Two days later she was diagnosed with oral herpes. In an ongoing case at the Manhattan Supreme Court, she is now suing MAC for unspecified damages. “This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done”, she warned.
Rihanna’s RiRi Woo lipstick is part of an ongoing cosmetics deal with MAC, designed to coincide with her globe-spanning “Diamonds World Tour”. The tour will bring the star and her lipstick (though hopefully no herpes) to the UK this month, stopping at Cardiff (10 June), Manchester (12-13), London (15-16), Birmingham (17) and Sunderland (20).
