Riding On Eagles’ Wings

By Michael Adekoya – “‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.” Exo. 19:4. “He found him in a desert land And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings,”. Deut. 32:10-11.

Dear Reader, in our society today and unfortunately also among the Kingdom Citizens, we have a lot of physical and spiritual casualties. People who get tired, bored, frustrated and overwhelmed by a lot of things going on within and around them. A lot of people possibly including you may be physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and even psychologically worn out, flat out, burn out, spent out or packed up. They are fed up of their current situations, they are craving for changes, looking forward to better days, improved circumstances and freedom.

Similar to these situations were the conditions of the Israelites in the land of Egypt. They got to Egypt by divine design, by divine providence, by default, many were born there, they grew up there, they did not know any better or any alternative life other than that. But their hearts yearned and craved for changes, improvements, liberty, freedom, independence and better life. Does any of these situation describe your current situation now? If yes, thank God you are on the right page. God sees your heart, He hears your groaning, He understands your desires and He has already done all what He supposed to have done as the Bible says, that He has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness through our Lord Jesus. Having heard their groaning, cries, mourning, murmuring, burden, He remembered His covenants with their forefathers, therefore, God sent a Deliverer in the person of Moses to deliver His people out of the land of Egypt. The way that this ‘expedite mission’ was carried out was referred to in our text for this week as ‘riding on eagle’s wings’.

The Israelites’ deliverance was described by God Himself as riding on eagle’s wings in the sense that, He delivered them by the greater power than that of the greatest power of their time, He delivered them by the higher authority than that of Pharaoh who put them into bondage or the powers of the task masters that he put over them. Among the birds, there is not bird as powerful as eagle. God likens Himself sometimes to an Eagle or a Lion. These are the kings of the bird and the animal kingdoms respectively. My friend, for you to be delivered from your current situations, circumstances, boredom, burdens, frustrations or bondages, you need a greater power than that of the power that puts you there in the first instance and that power can only be found in God through our Lord Jesus. No prisoner can free himself, also  dead person can never raise himself, he needs another living and higher power to do that. The only living and higher power is God, He is greater than the greatest, higher than the highest, older than the oldest, wiser than the wisest, stronger than the strongest, faster than the fastest, as an eagle possesses all these attributes over all the other birds, so our God possesses these attributes over all His creatures and of course including the Devil, your task masters, your pursuers, your enemies, all the witches, Wizards, false prophets, troublers, tormentors, oppressors and so on.

My friend, why don’t you run to Him today to be freed from your current negative, seemingly impossible situations? With this God, all things are possible, no impossibilities in His dictionary. If He can create the whole world out of nothing, He possesses the power to save you. If He can uphold this world by His power, He has enough power to change your situations. Run to Him today, don’t continue to run to any other lesser powers, deliverers or the so called ‘saviours’. He is calling you to come with all your heavy burdens, He has promised you rest (Matt. 11:28). You can not save yourself from the power of sin, that besetting sin that you are tired of committing, painful and heartbreaking each time you fall into it. That uncontrollable anger, pride, gossip, lie, evil thoughts, pornography, masturbation, illicit sex, immoralities, worries, anxieties and fear that you are frustrated and tired of, take them all to Him, open your heart to Him, confess those hiding weaknesses to Him, give all those burden to Him, He is able to have them all and give you peace, rest, joy, power, ability, strength and the grace to march on, move forward, to continue and even to finish well.

My friend, not only that the Israelites were delivered by the greatest power, by riding on eagle’s wings they were delivered by a great speed. Eagle is the fastest bird, no any other bird can fly very fast, as high as the eagle, to withstand storms like the eagle, to face the sun like the eagle, that has better sights like the eagle or that has the ability to spot, focus and pick up its preys like the eagle. Our God in the same vein, is the Only One who stays in one spot but travels faster than any other flying living creature or inanimate objects. Pharaoh possessed the most sophisticated, effective, efficient and most destructive ammunition of their time. No earthly army possessed the speed of Pharaoh’s chariots, horses or of his horse riders. But when God stepped in, He delivered them with greater speed and acceleration that the Pharaoh horses or his horse riders can never cope with.

My friend, are you overwhelmed by the fact that your friends, contemporaries, classmates, age mates, companions, ministers like you or your colleagues have run ahead of you, have gone ahead of you, have possessed material things more than you, have accomplished more than you or have been promoted ahead of you. And as such, you are frustrated, burdened, tired, worried or wanting to quit, pack up, cave in, give up or accept your fate like that. I have a good-news for you, my God who delivered the Israelites on eagle’s wings will deliver you and make you to run ahead of your companions or mates. When the hands of God was upon Prophet Elijah (1Kings 18:46), he outran King Ahab that was riding on the horse. All what you need to be moved from the back to the front, from obscurity to limelight, from nobody to somebody, from nothing to something and from useless to useful is the ‘eagle’s wings’ of the Almighty God. My friend, I can see you been catapulted from the back to the front, from been forgotten to relevance, from neglected to been sought for. Trust God today, He shall perform this too in your life in Jesus name. Amen.

The Israelites were not only delivered by the greatest power, or by the unmatchable speed, by riding on eagle’s wings, their provision, protections, guidance and endurance throughout the wilderness journey were supplied by God. They ‘rode on His wings’. He bore them, He carried them, He sustained them and He lifted them throughout. The weight of the carried is always been taken up by the carrier. The survival of the carried depends on the carrier, also the provision, the protection, the energy, the endurance and the sustainability of the carried are all depend on the carrier. Therefore, the deliverance of the Israelites from the land of Egypt to the Promised Land, your salvation journeys too from this end of eternity to the other side of eternity can only be depended on God and God alone.

My friend, rely, trust, depend and look only unto God for your provision, protection, security, guidance and strength in this Kingdom race. Human beings can not carry you thus far before they drop you. Mephiboshet was only five years old, his nurse carried him, she was running because of war, but eventually dropped him and he became crippled (2Sam. 4:4). If a five year old with lesser weight and velocity can be dropped by an adult, an expert and a professional, spiritually speaking too, no human being, an expert or a professional can carry you far before they drop you. If they drop you, as Mephiboshet was crippled all his life, you too can become crippled, wounded, injured or bear an indelible mark all the days of your life. Therefore, let God carry you today, let Him be your Sustainer, Provider, Protection, Career and your all in all as from this moment. If He does, your frustration, regrets, worries, anxieties and struggles shall be over. As the burden Bearer, He shall bear all your ‘weights’ and ‘carry’ you to the end (Isa. 46:3-4)
My friend, you may be wondering and wanting to ask, “Michael, how do I ride on the eagle’s wings?” Well, I shall close with that. Firstly, you need to be an eagle to ride on eagle’s wings. You need to be a child of God to be carried, sustained, provided for, to be led and directed by God. Eagle carries its preys with its claws and beaks, but carries its eaglets on its wings. Therefore, my friend, first of all surrender your life to Jesus, confess Him as your Lord and Saviour, then you shall be qualified to be carried by Him. Another thing that you need to do is to rely and trust Him alone, no shaking while on a bike, don’t get dropped by your unbelief, fear, lack of patience, anxieties or by your lack of focus. Stay put on His wings, as He’s taking you higher, don’t look down, you can be dropped, don’t look at the other carriers, you might loose focus or loose your balance.

Finally, be filled with the Holy Spirit, get ‘drunk’ by the Holy Spirit, let Him control your thoughts, your actions, you desires, your works, your walks, your talking and everything about you. Ezek. 47:1-5 talks about the different levels of water and its effects or impacts. The water that is ankle deed, kneel deep or waist deep can not control, sustain, lift or carry you unlike the river. When we are anointed to the level of allowing the overflowing river of the Holy Spirit in us, we have no choice other than to surrender to the ‘River’ to bear our weights, to carry us towards the free flowing direction. When we get to this level, we can then boldly declare that we are riding on eagle’s wings completely. My friend, are you there yet? If not, no despair, through your daily crucifixion of the work of fresh, sacrificial living, life of obedience to His Word, ways and Spirit, daily waiting on God in prayer. Then the word of  Isa. 40:31, “But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Shall become realities in our lives. Remain blessed!
