37 year-old Felix Ogunleye, who was the assistant manager of a Primark store in Ilford admitted to 10 counts of Theft by an Employee after it was discovered that he was issuing returns on items during store after hours, and pocketing the money. Using sales receipts from previous customers Ogunleye logged in to a customer service till using his unique employee number (as well as another employee’s) and stole over £500, by issuing fake refunds.

His employers became suspicious when they noticed the unauthorised transactions on the account linked to his unique employee number; the fact they took place in afterhours also raised alarm bells.

Ogunleye was arrested at his home but initially denied the allegations during the first interview.

At Barkingside Crown Court he pleaded guilty to the charges, and following an internal investigation resigned from his position.

PC Sam Burrows, the investigating officer at Ilford, said: “Ogunleye was employed as an assistant manager which placed him in a position of trust.

“He abused this position on a number of occasions with no regard for company policy or the repercussions. He pocketed over £500 as a result of his dishonesty and may have been doing so for some time. The investigation will be continued due to more evidence coming to light.”

Ogunleye is due to be sentenced on Tuesday, 28 April, at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court.
