Pa Gabriela Lamoshe, the UK’s oldest Nigerian, is set to turn 100 in the next few months and will be the first Nigerian in the country to do so.
Born at Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital in Abeokuta on March 15th 1914, Lamoshe came to the UK in 1941 and has since become a proud citizen. He is looking forward to receiving his centenarian letter, a letter sent to every UK citizen who manages to reach 100, from the Queen.
The Egba United Society (EUS), a group of Egbas living in the UK of which Lamoshe is a founding member, are planning a massive party for him in London to commemorate the momentous event. Chief Yemisi Sanusi, chairman of the EUS, has asked members and attendees to contribute £30 to the event stating that he hopes ‘to make it a grand occasion with entertainment and good food.’ He also said that he hopes to attract sponsors to the event and expects several Nigerian dignitaries to be there, including the Nigerian High Commissioner in the UK
Despite his age, Lamoshe is said to be full of life and vitality. He is popular among the Nigerians within his community and the EUS wants his party to reflect that.
