Irked by the numbers of avoidable deaths from incessant accidents on our nation’s highways, Honourable member representing Akure North and Akure South federal constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Afe Olowookere has called on the Federal government to urgently build mobile Clinics with first aid facilities along the Nation’s highways.
He made the call at a sitting of the House of Representatives under the motion `Need to build mobile Clinics along the Nation’s highways’. Olowookere said ‘The House notes the deplorable condition of the Nation’s road network and the incessant accidents that occur daily on these roads in all parts of the country. Most of the deaths resulting from these accidents could have been prevented if proper measures and first aid facilities had been provided for the victims. He noted that many lives have been lost in those accidents and that majority of the victims are in their prime and age range whose services the country is in dire need of’.
He said this became necessary as it aims to provide timely aid to victims of traffic accidents in order to minimise fatalities. Many lives can be saved if traffic accident victims have access to first aids like stopping bleeding or preventing shock as lack of immediate medical attention or wrong initial treatment is a major factor in deaths, Olowookere said.
