Nigeria e-passport issuance and renewal suspension lifted in London

LIFTING OF THE SUSPENSION OF BIOMETRICS CAPTURE IN THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

“Nigerians in the United Kingdom would recall the suspension of biometrics capture with effect from Monday, 28th March 2022.

The suspension became necessary to avoid breakdown of law and order at the premises of the High Commission, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London.

It would be recalled that agitated applicants have physically assaulted some members of staff of the Mission whilst incessant verbal attacks continue to increase on daily basis, thus raising tensions. The lives of applicants as well as those of members of staff are invaluable, hence, the exposure to danger needed to be doused to avoid unpleasant consequences.

Issues relating to the appointment for biometrics capture required for Enhanced E-Passport and other ancillary matters connected with the recently launched Enhanced E-Passport are critically being evaluated by the Nigeria Immigration Service, with a view to easing the process and rectifying identified challenges. The Nigeria Immigration Service intends to send a technical team to London in this regard, and has also pledged to ensure optimum service to passport applicants in the United Kingdom.

Consequently, the Mission hereby lifts the earlier suspension of the biometrics operations with effect from Monday, 4th April 2022.

All applicants affected by the suspension are implored to visit the Mission for biometrics capture accordingly. The Nigeria High Commission appreciates the cooperation and support of applicants whilst the suspension lasted.“

Signed,

Nigeria High Commission London, United Kingdom.
