Atlanta Hawks v Sacramento Kings

Former NBA All-Star Daron “Mookie” Blaylock is out of the hospital and in jail, charged with vehicular homicide in a car crash south of Atlanta.

The 46-year-old Blaylock was a first-round draft pick by the New Jersey Nets out of Oklahoma in 1989. Most highly regarded for his quick hands and a ball hawking defensive style Blaylock produced more than 200 steals in a season five times, and two NBA All-Defensive first-team selections. He was also a capable outside shooter, a fine passer who generally ranked among the league’s assist leaders, and a durable instigator of the fast break.

He played for two other teams during his NBA career, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and also played a key part in the 1994 NBA All-Star game.

Blaylock is also charged with driving on a suspended license, making an improper lane change and crossing the median in the head-on crash that killed a 43-year-old woman in Jonesboro. Blaylock surrendered Monday and is being held without bond.

Blaylock’s attorney has said the former player had blacked out just before the crash. This story has also been corroborated these claims saying the star had a history of seizures, but could not say for certain whether this was the case for this accident.

Authorities have said Blaylock was also had a outstanding warrant in Spalding County, Georgia on charges of DUI and drug related offences. However, officers are reiterating that they ‘did not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.’
