Lisa Chesney appointed British High Commissioner to Uganda

Ms Lisa Chesney MBE

Ms Lisa Chesney MBE has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Uganda in succession to Ms Kate Airey OBE who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Ms Chesney will take up her appointment in October 2024.

Her career started at the Coats Plc, as Sales and Marketing, later Central Europe Marketing Manager (based Germany) in 1995 to 2005 and later at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Lausanne. At Coats Plc, European Category Director (based Germany) in 2005 to 2008.

She joined FCO, Corporate Services Centre (CSC) Change Programme Director, later Interim CSC Director, Finance Directorate 2008 to 2010 and became FCO, Head, Prevent Team, Counter-Terrorism Department 2010-2012. Full-time language training (Pashto) in 2012 and Lashkar Gah, Head Politics and Strategic Communications, Provincial Reconstruction Team, Helmand Province 2012 to 2013.

Ms Lisa became Deputy Head of Mission in Mogadishu 2013 to 2014. She proceeded to a Higher Command and Staff Course, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in 2015.

FCO, Deputy Head, Security Policy Department in 2015 to 2018 and Home Office, Head, Counter-Extremism Unit in 2018 to 2020.

Home Office, Gold Command, COVID-19 Recovery and Change, Public Safety Group and Head, Counter-Extremism Unit 2020 to 2021.

She is presently the British High Commissioner in Freetown.
