Finding products, be it make up, lingerie or hosiery, to match our skin tones  has always been somewhat difficult for women of colour. While several high street companies proudly parade their line of so called ‘nude’ colours black women everywhere are left scratching their heads in confusion and undoubtedly annoyance, wondering exactly what kind of ‘nude’ these companies were talking about, and whether their version of nude would ever be represented.

Enter: Nubian Skin, an innovative London based lingerie brand launched to encourage women of colour to embrace their diverse range of skin tones by offering lingerie and hosiery in a range of nude colours suitable for black women.

“My nude isn’t the nude I see in shops.” Nubian Skins founder wrote on her blog. “Despite the reality that women of colour have the same needs as all women when it comes to lingerie and hosiery (and spend the same of their hard-earned money), the industry simply doesn’t cater to us. So, I thought, it’s time to rethink the definition of nude.”

“It’s an uphill battle,” she added “but every revolution must start somewhere.”

The UK based company whose online store will launch in October will have a collection of bras, knickers, tights and hold-ups, in four different colours including Berry, the darkest of the bunch, aimed at women who wear foundations shades such as Mac NW50, BlackUp HC14 Bobby Brown Espresso 10 and Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint in Beige 90), Cinnamon (Mac N8/N9/NW45/NW47, Bobbi Brown Warm Walnut, Yve s Saint Laurent Le Teint in Beige 80) and Caramel (MAC Matchmaster – 7, YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation- Beige 70, Bobbi Brown skin foundation – Golden).

They will also have a range of sizes from 30B to 36E with hopes to expand to larger sizes in the future.
