Songstress Kayefi performing at Turaka Centre in Kent

We had a unique experience at An Intimate Evening with Kayefi on Saturday December 23 2023. The private event took place at Turaka, Kent, United Kingdom, an artistic space soothing for the purpose.

The evening was quite private and cozy as Kayefi thrilled us with a 3 piece band serenading guest with her self written songs and amazing voice! The evening was quite insightful and interactive. She shared life issues and beliefs through her music, her deep lyrics and a melody that could not be ignored.

She opened the show with OJEJE a song she had written for her late mother, telling us the events that had inspired it which had left us teary eyed as she intricately wove her voice and lyrics around our hearts like a web. ORO a song talking about the Nigeria of her childhood and the Nigeria of now, calling on everyone to come together to build nation and make it great again.
She gave us some Betty Wright vibes with her EREBE as she talked about a young girl about to be lured into making love for the first time and then gave it a twist at the end to say she had narrowly escaped which made everyone laugh and also sigh in relief.

Kayefi’s masterful art of story telling is undeniably captivating.
Her vocal dexterity brings to mind Erykah Badu, Lauryn hill, Angelique Kidjo to mention a few as she performed Manirare where she introduced her ijala at the tail end of the song, the voice control, the purity of the transition was mind blowing and to think she achieved all of these with just a guitar and a piano!
CRAZY WORLD a song off her last EP, which also happened to be the tittle of the EP, speaks for itself as she talks about the greed of men. She also performed JOURNEY, IDOWU OGBO and PONRAELE

Kayefi also thrilled us with several African chants the highlight of which was her Oriki Ibeji, a eulogy to twins which she had spontaneously and effortlessly chanted to the audience when she spotted a set of twins amongst them.

It was indeed a beautiful performance as she wrapped up the night with yet another chant which left us all in awe. We honestly can’t wait to experience another edition and how we can spread the word.
