Josephine Gauld appointed British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone

Ms Josephine Gauld LVO has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Sierra Leone in succession to Ms Lisa Chesney MBE, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Ms Gauld will take up her appointment during September 2024.

Ms Gauld worked at British Council in 1997 to 2002 and joined the FCO in 2002, she was at the FCO, EU External Department in 2002 to 2003 before moving to Kinshasa, as Second Secretary Political and Economic in 2004 to 2007 and to Abidjan, as First Secretary 2007 to 2009.

In 2009 to 2012 she served at the FCO, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate before moving to Abuja, as Deputy Head of Chancery in 2012 to 2014.

Ms Josephine Gauld was in Strasbourg, Ecole Nationale d’Administration in 2014 to 2016 moving to Abidjan, as Her Majesty’s Ambassador 2016 to 2020.

Ms Gauld is Deputy High Commissioner and Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN Habitat in Nairobi since 2021 to present date.
