Golden Gabby launches book and sports line
She’s not yet old enough to vote, but with two Olympic gold medals, Gabrielle Douglas has a story to share in her new book, Grace, Gold & Glory: My Leap of Faith.
“I want people to be inspired by my book,” Gabrielle said of the book, which is now available at Amazon.com.
Gabrielle rose to fame as the star of the 2012 US Women’s Gymnastics Team. She made history as the first African-American to win All-Around gold. Since then, she’s worked the talk-show circuit, appeared at celebrity events and received several additional honours.
While some might let the fanfare go to their heads, Gabrielle has consistently given all the credit to God.
“My faith stands [as] definitely the most important [thing] in my gymnastics career. God has given me this amazing talent, and He’s woken me up everyday and kept me safe in the gym, so He’s played a big role in my life,” she said.
The teen said she envisioned herself on the Olympic podium more than once, and she strengthened her faith with regular Bible study.
“Every time I travel to camp or to an international assignment, I would always have my Bible with me. I would bring the big version and put it in my suitcase and then have a small Bible version that I’d put in my purse, and I just remember my mom and everyone would send me Bible verses, and I would just highlight and just read the Bible verses over and over again and just meditate and gradually just build my faith up,” she said.
Now that she has those gold medals, Gabrielle has new a goal.
“I just pray that God keep me humble and keep me grounded. I don’t want to be this on top diva. I want to be this role model,” she said. “I want to be that blessing on other people.”
Further capitalizing on her success at London 2012, the 16-year-old Olympian just launched a new line of leotards stateside with GK Elite!
“I am so honoured & excited to have my own line of leotards with GK,” Gabby shared. “Expressing my personality and love for gymnastics through this collection is a great way to share my creative ideas. I will be really proud when I see other gymnasts wearing my designs to practice!”
