The classic arena has a special place in the history of international distance running and has been the scene of numerous world records. Dibaba has competed there several times and often provided the highlight of the meet.

Genzebe is the sister of three-time Olympic champion Tirunesh Dibaba and Olympic silver medallist Ejegayehu Dibaba, and is also the cousin of former Olympic champion Derartu Tulu. Youngest sister Anna, now 19, is also a runner.

“Stockholm is my second home and I’m looking forward to Stockholm BAUHAUS Athletics and the chance to run a fast 5000m,” she said.

The 24-year-old currently holds three indoor world records over 1500m, 3000m and 5000m – the latter two set at Stockholm’s XL Galan in 2014 and 2015.

After her recent 14:21:29 win at the Bislett Games in Oslo, she said: “I tried hard, but [the] pacemakers could not do what I needed. Of course [it was] also cold and wind played [a] role, but overall I’m OK with the race. [I] did my best.

“I’m not sure whether I will try to break [my] sister’s record again. My full concentration will go towards [the] Beijing World Championships and 5000m.”
