The unending chaotic fuel scarcity in Nigeria has continued to generate interest from political figures who represent various constituencies in state and national levels.
The Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leonard Okuweh Ogor representing Isoko Federal Constituency of Delta state has urged the Federal Government to remove fuel subsidy and create opportunities for individuals to invest in our oil sector.
Answering questions recently on a live Television programme, Hon. Leo Ogor said “Resources are not available, my people are buying fuel at N200, N220 per litre. Subsidy must go”.
Attributing the problem of this fuel scarcity to playing politics with people’s feelings, Ogor said “Removing subsidy will allow for competition, GSM is a good example, we don’t have the resources and we shouldn’t play politics with this issue. We need to take the bull by the horn to mitigate the sufferings of the people who are our brothers and sisters”.
“I have insisted on it. We can not continue with this exercise, we don’t have the money. I’m against subsidy from day one, we don’t need to subsidise this product. What is the value of our money today that we will spend trillions on subsidy?”
Leo Ogor who recently donated and commissioned several vehicles to Isoko community vigilante groups in Ozoro, Delta state, South south Nigeria said ‘History will not forgive us. Even the Buhari regime is struggling to address this issue. We need to liberalise the sector. People are just
suffering for no reason.
He noted that government should not shy away from telling the people the truth and must find a way to localise arrangements to alleviate the sufferings because history will not forgive us if we fail, he said.
Nigerians have over the years lamented the handling of the nation’s upstream and downstream oil sectors which has brought untold hardship in all the states of the federation.
