Algerian Riyad Mahrez bagged a weekend brace to give the Leicester City a huge boost as they battle to save themselves from relegation from the English Premier League. His early goals, which ended a four-month scoring drought, delivered a 2-0 home victory over seventh-place Southampton, and left the ‘Foxes’ three points above the drop zone, continuing a run to rival any top team in Europe.
Leicester City, who looked doomed two months ago having been cut adrift at the bottom of the table, have since won all but one of their last eight games – the one exception being Premier League champions, Chelsea.
Other African scorers in the Premier League included Nigerian Victor Anichebe for West Bromwich Albion and Senegalese Mame Biram Diouf for Stoke City.
