Randall Emmett, one of the film’s producers, has recently stated that the movie will start shooting in June, accompanied by a “great” script. And unlike other biopics (read: that Aaliyah/Lifetime debacle), Pac’s original music will be used in the film, according to a recent interview with Collider.

“Morgan Creek bought the rights to the music and we share fifty percent of the rights with Morgan Creek,” Emmett revealed. “So Morgan Creek acquired all the music rights from the estate when they partnered with Tupac’s mother.”

The producer also gave some insight on how the storyline of the film will be structured. Having Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, aboard to executive produce the film, Emmett discussed the parts of the hip-hop legend’s life that will potentially land on screen.

“Our story, like a lot of biopics, especially in the hip-hop space, will start [by setting] up the beginning of his life,” he added. “We want to be real and raw about the things and the life and the gangster life he was involved in growing up in the way he grew up, but we also want to honour the talent. He really was, in my opinion, for sure, one of the greatest talents that ever lived in music and in hip-hop.”
