Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack and Mary Wilson have between them been responsible for some of the greatest songs of all time from Walk On By, and Killing Me Softly With His Song to Stop In The Name of Love and Heartbreaker.
These legends, whose heyday spanned a twenty year period from the early 1960s, are to embark on a three-day UK stadium tour in October.
Dionne Warwick alone has sold over 100 million records and is immortalised in music history as the voice of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s greatest hits. Many of her interpretations of the famous hit-making duo’s songs were copied by British artists like Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield, helping to launch their careers.
Roberta Flack is the only artist ever to win two consecutive Grammy Awards for Record of the Year with The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly With His Song in 1973 and 1974, respectively. Apart from her solo hits, she also enjoyed success as part of a duo with the late Donny Hathaway
As a founding and only ever-present member of The Supremes, Mary Wilson became part of the most successful female group in recording history, along with original band mates Diana Ross and Florence Ballard. The group survived the departure of Diana Ross against all odds and Wilson has gone on to perform in several shows since the group’s demise.
Also on the bill will be The Drifters, who have had massive chart success on both sides of the Atlantic with their close-harmony perfection on timeless hits like Under The Boardwalk, Saturday Night at the Movies, Save The Last Dance For Me and Carole King’s Up On The Roof. Like Diana Ross from The Supremes, former Drifter Ben E. King enjoyed a long and successful solo career after leaving the group.
Kicking off on in London on October 3 at the SSE Arena, Wembley, the tour will also take in the Birmingham Barclaycard Arena and Manchester Arena. For tickets and information go to www.legendslive.org
