By Olayiwola Balogun – On Saturday 5th December 2020, the nonagenarian matriarch of the Abiola family recorded yet another historic lifetime achievement as she witnessed the unveiling and dedication to God of ADUKE HOUSE, a country home built in her honour by her children as a legacy to immortalise her lifetime achievements in Ilobu, Osun State, Nigeria.
ADUKE House features a separate two bedroom self contained purpose built bungalow at the back of a newly refurbished six bedroom shared apartment at the front, fenced for privacy, with space to accommodate four cars, a clean water borehole system and reservoir to serve the local community.
The nonagenarian popularly referred to as mumsy or mama is so blessed to have seen her fourth generation children. Madam Comfort Abiola had a disadvantaged childhood having been born by a father, who though wealthy, did not believe in educating the girl child for the simple reason of not being able to carry on with the family name at marriage.
Mama was also forced by circumstances beyond her control, to single-handedly raise her 3 children (Prince Mike Abiola Publisher of African Voice Newspapers UK, Mrs Folashade Shode ex- Banker and successful businesswoman and Akeem Abiola ex- Bank Manager and successful business entrepreneur). With hard work and sheer determination, madam Comfort Abiola focused on giving her children the best education.
Facing her challenges squarely, she threw herself into the marketing of her jewelleries and toys business thereby becoming one of the very successful market traders at the popular Oyingbo market in Lagos State.
Madam Aduke Abiola made huge sacrifices to be able to educate her children to a very successful level. Mama’s eldest son, Prince Mike Abiola publisher of African Voice Newspapers UK said, “Mumsy, as we popularly call her is a shining example and pride to womanhood, worthy of emulation. l can never forget how she worked tirelessly to keep us focused on our education. She opted to invest in our private school education while her colleagues bought properties in Lagos. We love and appreciate you our sweet mother.”
Mama, in appreciating the value of educating her children, did not invest in properties in Lagos but still managed to build herself a six-bedroom apartment bungalow at Ilobu in Osun State.
Today, her children brought their mother, madam Sidikatu Comfort Aduke Abiola, back from Lagos, where she currently resides with her daughter, Mrs Folashade Shode since her return from her eight-year sojourn in the United Kingdom.
The triumphant return to Ilobu the place of her birth, is to dedicate the newly built, modern, two bedroom self-contained bungalow and the newly refurbished six bedroom apartment bungalow.
Madam Comfort Aduke with dancing and rejoicing enthused: “I am very grateful to God Almighty, for giving me radiant health and long life to see my three children succeed, witness the births of my nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. To God be the glory”
Madam Comfort Aduke was warmly received and highly celebrated by her younger siblings, extended family members/friends and the entire neighbourhood at Ilobu.
Engr. Munir Adejare Abiola and wife Barrister Olajumoke Taiwo Abiola helped to organise a befitting reception in honour of madam Aduke Abiola.
