CARNIRIV 2012 heralds 100 years of Port Harcourt

One of the oldest carnivals in Nigeria, CARNIRIV is entering its 5th season since its revival in 2008 and promises another showcase of rich socio-cultural activities.

This year’s carnival, to be held in December 8 – 15, coincides with the city or Port Harcourt’s commemoration of 100 years existence.

Themed ‘’Reminiscing our past and consolidating our future” highlights include a kids’ carnival, a nostalgic retrospection into the ancient ageless fireplace gatherings of indigenous African tribes and ‘Rhythm of The Tribes’ in which the 23 local government areas will parade the best of their cultural heritage.

As well as the Black African Music Festival (BAMFest), the city that prides itself on its rich international heritage will host world-feted reggae stars such as Shaggy, Patra and Morgan Heritage from Jamaica at Reggae-360, another star attraction of the event. The Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir is also expected to appear.
