Nigerian Terrorist group Boko Haram reportedly kidnapped at least 20 women in Garkin Fulani on Saturday, just five miles away from where over 200 hundred school girls were abducted from there school a little less than two months ago.
Officials and members of the military have no knowledge of where the women have been taken and the Boko Haram have made no contact.
Alhaji Tar, a member of a Vigilante group in the area stated ‘available information revealed that the gunmen came around noon and abducted 20 women and three young men left to keep watch on the village,’
All the males in the settlement were away in the bush with their herd (of cattle) for grazing when the abductors came to the village.’
Members of the village have said that this is not the first time the terrorist group have kidnapped Fulani women in the area and have stated that on previous occasions they were forced to pay a ransom with cattle. An official ofMiyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) stated
“This is not the first time women are being kidnapped in this area and only released when we pay cattle ransom to the kidnappers. It has happened several times,”
“They come and go door-to-door bringing women outside and select young women and take them away in their vehicles and demand between 30 and 40 cows for their release”.
He added that villagers were too afraid to go to the authorities, and Borno State government denies any knowledge of previous abductions.
These latest kidnapping have taken place only a week after the group attacked three villages in the Borno state area killing 100s of people while disguised as soldiers.
While Boko Haram’s insurgency across Nigeria’s northern state, Nigeria’s government has done very little to combat the militant group, and the 200+ girls who went missing almost two months ago are still yet to be found.
