By Professor Chris Imafidon – #APromisedLand: A President’s story of his undying HOPE against a seeming invincible army and tough faith in the face of adversity and fragile promise. Barack bears all on how history was made over and over again and shares the riveting story of the secrets of his successes.

Barack Obama regains his freedom from the prison of The presidency, power and privilege, and returns to the pulpit to preach hope and unbridled optimism in his latest biography.

INTRODUCTION

Based on my personal experience of reading over 300 political biographies, and providing advisories for some leaders, it is evident that #APromisedLand is the best-scripted political memoir ever. Barack Obama doesn’t just state facts or describe events so that he can clarify issues. He unconsciously shows his award-winning communication skills, which are unchanged from the DNC keynote address of 2004 in Boston or the classic “Audacity of Hope”. #APromisedLand confirms that Barack, indeed is back! He is living the true meaning of his name, Barack (which means Blessing, or the blessed one), because he graphically displays this divine blessing (or gift) of captivating expression. Barack effortlessly paints pictures in the minds of his readers. He creates images of the Oval office, spiced up by what happens at the dinner table with Michelle, Sasha and Malia. Even if you hate politics these rare but candid revelations of living legislative drama, and the feast of family insight makes you want to ask for more like Oliver Twist. Professor, I mean President Obama carefully pick words like a ‘word-smith’ to produce a delicious sandwich of prose, poetry and oratory.

If you see the use of words in opening chapters of “The Bet to Renegade”, it becomes self-evident that these are the writings of a professor–in-chief, NOT a former Commander-in-chief.  The closing chapters of “Barrel and High wire” are hypnotic. The clarity of the picture painted fools any reader into believing that they physically experienced the events narrated or met the persons described. It’s like reading a thriller. Politics and partisanship were twin distractions from President Obama’s real calling.

#APromisedLand is the best evidence, beyond ALL doubts that Barack is the world’s communicator-in-chief, or supreme commander of linguistic forces. It is a great delight to know that the label of “Commander-in-chief” was only transitory. Everyone must join his family to celebrate that such role is gone, and the writer, Barack is re-born. Therefore, more volumes are to be expected to feed the hungry eyes of the masses. As water flows from the river, so do words of hope and faith flow from Barack’s pen.

THE MAN

This eternal prisoner of pathological optimism only sees light at the end of every dark tunnel of racism, inequity, injustice, illiteracy, poverty and ignorance. In this book, Obama renews his faith as the foremost apostle of possibilities who has deleted DESPAIR from his lexicon and lifts his readers to look up to a land of promise. The historic promise made on the 4th of July 1776 states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that ALL men are created EQUAL, and that they are endowed by their Creator.” President Obama sincerely believes in the realization of this ideology just as the ancient Prophet Moses believed the Promised Land or as Dr Martin Luther King Jnr believed his dream. This work is not just deserving of making bestselling history in sales, but also destined to get many recognitions, awards and laurels.

My only irritation with the book, is the inability to fulfil its promise that “More than anyone, this book is for those young people – an invitation to once again remake the world.” Most of the inner-city kids that desperately need this universal story of hope do not have the vocabulary to grasp this serious message of hope in the book. We now know that the seed of greatness needs to be planted in the minds of the young a lot earlier than once believed.

MISSION –

Obama always believed that health is wealth. So he fought the biggest domestic war against ill-health via the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT and he revealed the hidden underbelly of the multiple battles and near losses of the tussle between the house and the hill. It was a nail-biting cliff hanger. It almost never happened. It is a classic lesson in vested interested versus vested power. In the end his very QUIET, peaceful and unconscious revolution succeeded. So nobody needs to be bankrupt due to medical bills or so was the promise. Thus, Obama became an American revolutionary for life. “OBAMACARE” is a true revolution in health and wealth in disguise.  However, most people believe that the best war he fought was the capture and killing of America’s Number One enemy, Usama Bin-Laden. The full details of exactly what happened and how the elite America force executed the operation is saved for the last few pages of the book,

MISTAKES

Reading this book feels like having a one-to-one dialogue with Mr President over coffee.  One hears him reminisce, in a conscientious manner, about what went on in his mind as he was ‘imprisoned’ in the white house and how he reached certain far-reaching decisions that changed the events in every house on the planet. Every little action, or inaction had global ripple effects. At the end, the reader will erroneously feel that they now know Mr President personally because he discussed very intimate, and personal issues far beyond politics, prestige of power, preferences, parenting, people and unexpected privilege.  His humanity and humanitarianism produced spontaneous honesty. For example he confessed that he was sexist in the first two years without knowing it. How can a man that lives with FOUR females be gender biased against women? His fabulous four females included the visible and vocal Michelle, Sasha, Malia and even grandma?  But Mr President quickly acknowledged this unconscious bias and began to see inequity and prejudice in all its subtleness. He demonstrated that Barack was human, and humane. Another error was his comments during a campaign when he referred to Gun-loving….” He hates mistakes but he is human enough to admit many mistakes.

If you think of Barack as Mr President, you will soon be disappointed. This is because he wants to be Barack, the blessed one, but humble enough to understand that you are also blessed. He paints a picture of how the unexpected happened during a foreign trip. There were setbacks and successes. For the powerful and privileged leader of the free world, Mr President, things were not always perfect. There is no perfect system, not even the telephone system (see pages 660-662). Barack had to improvise because the phone didn’t work at the most crucial time.

THE MONEY

For the African readers who are the greatest fans of President Obama, and rightfully regard him as their son, they wonder why #APromisedLand is not yet available in Swahili. But the publisher, Crown, printed 3.4 million copies of the book for the United States and Canadian market, and another 2.5 million for international readers. The book, which runs to 768 pages, is being released simultaneously around the world, and will be available in 19 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, Romanian and Chinese. Demand among American customers is so high that Penguin Random House, Crown’s parent company, has printed 1.5 million copies in Germany to bring over on cargo ships. THE END.
