By Milton Tella – President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has joined some of his colleagues from Africa and across the world in London to attend His Majesty The King’s Coronation this Bank Holiday weekend 6-8 May 2023.
The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be a moment of extraordinary national pride. Visitors from across the Commonwealth and beyond have arrived in London to celebrate the enduring nature of the Great British monarchy: its dazzling display, the processions, the pageantry, the ceremonies, and street parties.
The High Commissioner of Nigeria to the UK, Ambassador Sarafa Isola played host to a high powered delegation from Nigeria to the Coronation, consisting of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama, Hon. Minister for Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed, National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno, Secretary to Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity) Femi Adesina and others.
Ambassador Isola said leaders of the Commonwealth’s 56 member states have important roles to perform in the UK during the Coronation considering the position of His Majesty, The King as the Head and Nigeria is a very well respected member.
PM Rushi Sunak while welcoming the foreign dignitaries said, “The Coronation is not just a spectacle. It’s a proud expression of our history, culture, and traditions. A vivid demonstration of the modern character of our country. And a cherished ritual through which a new era is born.
In the Abbey where monarchs have been crowned for almost a thousand years, representatives of every faith will play a central role for the first time.
And in a fitting tribute to the spirit of service that will define the Carolean Age, people across our country will help their communities with thousands of acts of kindness.
So let’s celebrate this weekend with pride in who we are and what we stand for. Let’s look to the future with hope and optimism. And let’s make new memories, so we can tell our grandchildren of the day we came together to sing: God Save The King.”
