Dr Ali Soyode, founder of BEN Television UK who recently declared his intention to contest as a candidate for Nigeria’s N0.1 position, took his message to British House of Commons on 21st May 2018.
Dr. Soyode held a brainstorming session with invited Diaspora leaders at one of the House of Commons meeting rooms. Two British politicians and members of Parliament, Jeremy Lefroy MP and Jim Shannon MP attended the meeting. Supported by other politicians such as Councillor Susan Fajana Thomas from the London Borough of Hackney.
The strategic meeting was moderator by Dr Segun Johnson and coordinated by Michelle Akintoye BEM, to chart a united front for a UK backing and secure a common front by the UK Diaspora community for the candidature of Dr Soyode, who has distinguished himself as a selfless community worker and bridge builder.
Dr Soyode has officially announced his intention to contest in the forth-coming election in Nigeria in February 2019, at a declaration ceremony in Abuja, capital city of Nigeria. This move by Dr. Soyode is not only historic and making him the first UK Diaspora based Nigerian to indicate his interest in the presidential race, it has also helped to focus attention on the demand for the enactment of a law that will enable full Disapora participation and voting.
The outing at the House of Commons, the world-renowned home of democracy afforded Dr Soyode the opportunity to give an insight into his recent experience in Nigeria during the declaration exercise as well as to articulate his manifesto. He won the hearts and minds of all in attendance with ease, having been well known and trusted. He has over the years, established himself as a man of the people, patriotic, knowledgeable with leadership skills, enabling him to galvanise and contribute to a united and stronger British African community.
The Presidential candidate, Dr Alistair Soyode who founded BEN TV and was one time Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDEO) Europe is listed among Africa’s top 100 personalities for 2018. His candidacy should be an easy sell and one to attract a mass followership from the majority of the people, going by his antecedents.
Dr Soyode in his presentation articulated his well thought out programme to the admiration of the audience. He was upright in demanding that Britain and the West should see Nigeria as equal players and partners in the global arena.
He convinced the gathering by clearly enumerating his manifesto, which has the acronym YEEEEEEES with seven E’s meaning that his priority will be a focus on the Youth, Economy, Education, Employment, Energy, Enterprise, Elders. Experts and security.
