Alexander Amosu is a young multi-talented African and very successful entrepreneur. His life proves that working hard pays off since he wasn’t always the big name that he is today.
He started from the bottom, earning just £10 a week by doing a paper round at twelve years old. Several years later, Amosu made even more money by promoting a variety of events (such as basketball tournaments, five-a-side football matches, table tennis events and club nights). This gave Amosu essential entrepreneurial experience which he later used to launch his first company at 19 years old while studying at the university. The company went on to turn over £4000 a month.
Amosu’s success story began when he was playing about with his new Nokia 3210 and sent a ring tone to his brother, using the phone’s composing facility. His brother’s friends loved this idea of sending ring tones and asked if they could get the ring tones on their phones. Amosu decided to sell the ring tone to them and made £21, this sparked an idea in his head and he thought about what would happen if he sold thousands of ring tones. After some research he found out that there were only two other firms making ring tones and so there was a massive gap in the market. Amosu decided to leave university and launched Europe’s first urban ring tone selling company called RnB Ringtones in 1999. This company took off, going on to become the UK’s main provider of ring tones and graphics. Amosu then sold RnB Ringtones in 2004 due to saturation of ring tone selling companies in the market.
Now, Amosu spends his days promoting his luxury brands, named after himself, Alexander Amosu. Selling clothes from this brand to A-list celebrities such as Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah. The brand also collaborates with big names like Russell Simmons and has partnerships with Gout De Diamants (the most expensive champagne in the world). Amosu was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records after making the worlds most expensive and valuable suit, costing a whooping £70,000!. Amosu is also very supportive, encouraging others to follow in his footsteps and becoming accomplished entrepreneurs. He appears as a Dragon (investor) on Nigeria’s version of BBC’s Dragon’s Den. He also bought the extremely successful OK! Magazine to Nigeria and publishes it through one of his companies, the Kamson Luxury Group. Amosu featured on Channel 4 in the UK in a programme called “Lagos to London Britain’s New Super-Rich”.
