Ghana’s U-20 coach Sellas Tetteh is tipping an African nation to win the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
Tetteh told the BBC, “[Africa’s] four teams have shown quality; they can go as far as winning the World Cup.”
And Tetteh should know. He led Ghana to the continent’s first ever World Cup at any adult level in 2009. In New Zealand this time around, Africa’s hopes rest with Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal, who all qualified for this year’s tournament by reaching the semi-finals of the ongoing African Under-20 Championship, which reaches its climax this weekend.
Despite already meeting the objective of qualifying for the World Cup, Tetteh gave assurances that his side remain focused on winning the African championship.
“We have the hunger,” he insisted. “We are going into the semi-final [on Wednesday] against our old friends Nigeria. The two are football-loving countries and we want to play good football.
“We are well motivated and committed and we are going to do everything we can to win it.”
The 2015 Under-20 World Cup will be played from 30 May to 20 June
