The Air Algérie flight, travelling from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital, to Algiers early Thursday morning (July 24),that had been reported missing has now been found after crashing in Mali.
The plane, which was carrying 116 people including 2 pilots and 4 flight attendants, disappeared from radar fifty minutes into its journey. The French president has stated that there were no one survived the crash and it it has been reported that at least British passengers were on board, while over half of the passengers, including a family of 10, were French.
It is thought that the plane was asked to change its course because of poor visibility and in order to avoid a collision with another plane. Soon after this, at 0155 GMT, the plane lost contact with Air Traffic controllers.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve stated the plane ‘was destroyed the moment it crashed’ and added “we think the aircraft crashed for reasons linked to the weather conditions, although no theory can be excluded at this point”
