
The Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s biggest street festival in its 57th year, is organised by Notting Hill Carnival Limited and supported by the Mayor of London. The Carnival will start on Sunday 24 August and end on Monday 25 August 2025.
Since 1986, the longest running and largest gathering of Nigerians/Africans in the UK, tagged the NIGERIAN CORNER will present “LAGOS” to the world.
Sunday is Family Day, and it’s completely free to watch and take part. The official Carnival opening ceremony takes place at 10am, followed by the children’s parade, with younger performers dancing through the streets in costumes. There’s also the ‘Dutty’ (‘dirty’) or ‘Fun Mas’ parade, when brightly coloured paints and powder are thrown at spectators, accompanied by music, naturally.
Then from 12pm, the sound systems take over the streets, with live stages at Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park and Powis Square, going on until 7pm.
The UK’s biggest street party, it’s known for its colourful parades, floats and costumes, as well as the eclectic music offering, which sees sound systems blaring everything from reggae to soca and jungle. But food and drink is also a big part of the event. The streets of Notting Hill will welcome over 300 pop-up vendors serving African – Caribbean-inspired food and drinks – think Jamaican jerk chicken, goat curries and rotis.
