As Ramadan comes to a close for Muslims up and down the country, who have observed this holy month which has been uniquely different to any other year, the government guidance reminds us that the most important action we can all take to control the virus is to celebrate Eid at home as much as possible, with our families that live in our house.

If you are going to celebrate Eid outside, for example, in the park, the government guidance says that we should only mix with people from our house and we should practice social distancing, leaving 2 metres apart from other people, who do not live in your house. Also we should ensure we continue to wash our hands regularly, for 20 seconds, with soap and water or use hand sanitiser when there is no access to washing facilities.

Digital technology has made it easier for us all to comply with the government guidelines during Ramadan, with many Muslims joining virtual gatherings and keeping connected with extended family and friends via social media e.g. WhatsApp.

So this Eid, let’s continue to keep each other safe by staying alert so we can control the virus and save lives.
