By Olayiwola Akanmu – Investigation by African Voice shows that African air travellers can save a lot of money during holiday seasons by checking out what is on offer. Many travellers just rely on travel agents’ recommendations or short change themselves by paying high fares without shopping around.

A great number of Africans are heading abroad especially to motherland during this holiday season but spending less time in seeking bargain fares from top airlines according to investigation by African Voice Travel Researcher.

Investigation reveals that African travellers do not leverage on the strength in their numbers especially in the Diaspora to achieve lower rate in travel cost as well as track competitive rates among leading airlines.

A recent travel report revealed unprecedented increase in numbers of air travellers to destinations in Africa compared to other continents. According to travel analysts, this development should elicit a drop in travel costs. In comparison, travellers to same distance to the United State of America pay less compare to African destinations.

Some airlines are currently offering better deals, it is important for travellers to spend less on air travel to save money for other adventures. Travellers are advised to shop around to take advantage of promotions to popular destinations by some airlines.

African Voice Travel Researcher found that Brussels Airlines is offering lower travel cost to most of its 17 destinations in the continent.

In a press release made available to African Voice Travel Researcher, Brussels Airlines said, “it continues to invest in its position on the African market, by further reinforcing its flight offer to and from the continent. As of next year, the airline adds 3 extra flights per week to Banjul (Gambia) and will operate 3 out of the 7 weekly frequencies to Dakar (Senegal) as a direct flight, without a stop in another African airport. At the same time, the airline ceases its operations to and from Mumbai, but continues to offer its customers smooth travel options via Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich with Lufthansa Group partners Lufthansa and SWISS.

After a network expansion of 26 short- and medium-haul destinations this summer, Brussels Airlines invests further in its African long-haul network in winter. The airline will service Banjul (The Gambia) daily instead of 4 times a week. From the 7 weekly flights to and from Dakar, 3 flights will become direct flights, without a stop in another African airport from 7 January onwards, creating more capacity on the flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.”
