Nigerian Society of Engineers inaugurate London Branch

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) recorded another historic feat in London on Sunday 6th May 2018 with the inauguration of a new Branch in the UK (NSE London Branch) at the Skempton Building, of the prestigious Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by the President of NSE, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, FNSE and supported by 11 strong delegations consisting of Council and Exco members from Nigeria.

 

The Chairman of the occasion President of NSE, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, FNSE said in his keynote address that “NSE London Branch is the 71st NSE branch to be created and the first International branch of NSE outside Nigeria.” He commended those who worked tirelessly to facilitate the establishment of the London Branch and singled out the groundbreaking work done by Engr. Dr. Sunday Popo-Ola.

Engr. Dr. Chief Sunday Popo-Ola, MNSE was later sworn in as the Chairman of NSE London Branch,15 new members were inducted and certificates were awarded to them.

In his inaugural speech, Dr. Popo-Ola, the new Chairman highlighted the need for NSE London Branch at a time when Nigeria is looking into its Diaspora Engineers to help develop the most needed infrastructures in the country.

NSE London Branch will harness all the expertise, experiences and useful skills of all the Nigerian Engineers in the Diaspora to help to develop and attract Foreign Direct Investment to the country, said Engr. Dr. Popo-Ola.

Engr. Mokuolu praised the tenacity and courage of the founding fathers who made several personal sacrifices to establish the organisation which celebrated the 60th anniversary of its establishment in 1958. He said that a new branch was also created in Houston, USA and many more branches are being planned to be created in major cities across the world.

Historically, it was also in the UK, 60 years ago that some Nigerian engineers living in London led by the founding father, Engineer Geoffrey Aiwerioba FNSE gave birth to the national umbrella organization for the Engineering Profession in Nigeria.


Over 70 dignitaries in attendance included Mr David Waboso, CBE. MD, Group Digital Railway, Network rail, Dr Nike Folayan, President, Association of Black and Ethnic Minority Engineers in the UK, Prince Mike Abiola, CEO, African Voice Media Group, Dr Larry Jones-Esan Senior Lecturer, University of Sunderland, London Campus, Dr Sarah Piesik, Director, 3Ideas Architect, Engr. Chidi Izuwah, MD, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Mr & Mrs Koch, MD, 4Green Architecture, Cllr. & Mrs Ade Aminu and  Dr. Boma Douglas, President, Engineering Forum of Nigerians (EFN) UK, accompanied by a large turn out of (EFN) UK members.
