Michelle Obama’s video appearance at last weekend’s Academy Awards ceremony proved a little too racy for one of the United States’ biggest foes.
Iran’s authorities viewed the First Lady’s moderately plunging neckline and bare shoulders as breaching their conservative sensibilities and digitally altered her outfit for publication within the nation’s borders.
Mrs Obama wore a sleek metallic creation by Indian-American designer, Naeem Khan, but it looked quite unlike anything that was ever on the Mumbai-born 54 year-old’s sketch pad by the time the Iranian Fars News Agency got their hands on it.
The photo was apparently edited to better comply with the strict Islamic dress code for women. The fashion makeover was first reported by the blog Persian Letters.
It may or may not be significant that the Best Picture award being presented by the FLOTUS (First Lady of the United States) went to Argo – a movie that is openly critical of Iran’s regime.
