The 63-year-old princess arrived in the Ethiopian capital on Monday, where she met with Ethiopian president Mulatu Teshome.

The Princess Royal was told that 40,000 trained extension workers have helped elevate the nation’s health service. President Mulatu also told Princess Anne that Ethiopia is working on the development of different renewable energy projects, including the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) which is expected to generate 6000MWs.

Princess Anne for her part expressed her fascination that Ethiopia had registered success in these challenging sectors and underscored that the efforts that have proved fruitful so far should continue and be strengthened.

The princess was inspecting projects being undertaken in Ethiopia in her capacity as president of Save the Children – a position she had held for 44 years. Getachew Dibaba, spokesperson for Save the Children Ethiopia, told Anadolu Agency: “Her presence has a significant value to the overall endeavours of the organizations towards the wellbeing of children.”

Princess Anne ignored Foreign and Commonwealth Office warnings against visits to Ethiopia’s Somali region because of a high risk of terrorist attacks and severe threat of kidnapping. She also visited Tanzania, disregarding news that the Great Lakes nation had reported its first two cases of Ebola in the current crisis.
