Legendary singing icon Chaka Khan has moved swiftly to scotch any talk of a potential cold war with Beyoncé after music fans jumped on an interview in which the 1970s diva appeared disparaging towards Mrs Carter.
The video features an interview Chaka did with Hollywood Today while walking the red carpet for the 7th Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood event. After the reporter complimented her, saying she looked, “Absolutely flawless … like Beyoncé’s song,” the veteran vocalist rolled her eyes while seemingly uttering what some are interpreting as “That b*tch,” under her breath.
Responding to the mini-storm, Chaka has tweeted: “@Beyoncé Sorry you had to be the target of a slow news day,” Chaka tweeted. “You know I have nothing but LOVE for you! Keep handling your business!!”
Fans of Chaka have jumped to her defence with comments such as: “Why would Chaka Khan wanna be Beyonce when she’s Chaka Khan?” and: “The interviewer was NOT comparing Ms. Khan to Beyonce “the person”; he was comparing how Ms. Khan looked to Beyonce’s SONG Flawless. And, did you stop to think that maybe Ms. Kahn was playing around by doing the ‘twisted’ facial expression.”
Others interpreted the inaudible ‘comment’ differently. According to one fan: “It appears that she said ‘Chile Please’ not ‘That B**ch.’
Needless to say, the video went viral as talk of beef surfaced. One can only hope that Chaka’s addressing of the issue will go some way towards informing a generation entranced by TOWIE and Big Brother that sometimes there simply is no tension.
