Idris Elba has made no secret of his willingness to play 007, if asked

A low budget, one-off drama for SKY “Playhouse,” the heart-warming story follows 9-year-old boy, Akuna, and his experience starting at a school for disabled children.

It will be the second time Elba has directed a film for SKY “Playhouse.” You might recall that, in 2013, he made his TV directorial debut with a film titled “The Pavement Psychologist,” for which he also wrote the screenplay.

Chronicling the intriguing relationship between an affable businesswoman and a charismatic homeless man, Nonso Anozie starred in the film, which would eventually be broadcast in the UK. As for “King for a Term,” no casting information or ETA was available at the time of writing.

Playhouse Presents is a series of self-contained TV dramas, made by SKY Arts. The series started airing in 2012, on SKY Arts 1.

Elba has long expressed his desire to direct. We first learned about this in mid-2010, when he mentioned he was working with the BBC on a feature film project that was already being developed for him to helm some time in following year (2011), which would’ve been his directorial debut. He didn’t share much at the time, other than to say that the BBC-commissioned film centred on a young girl – nothing more. And nothing more on that project since then. Although he’s directed others, including a pair of music videos.

The Luther star has also jokingly alluded to rumours he is being considered to take over the role of James Bond from incumbent Daniel Craig. Elba tweeted a selfie of himself gurning with the caption, “Isn’t 007 supposed to be handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot!”

The James Bond rumours gained a new lease of life when the Sony hacking debacle allegedly revealed emails recommending the Londoner play Ian Fleming’s iconic agent.
