Dibaba gets gold, $100,000

Ethiopia’s ace long distance runner, Tirunesh Dibaba added a new accolade to her impressive array after winning the Chicago marathon held on Sunday.

Dibaba, 32, completed the distance in 02:18:31 to grab gold. Coming in behind her was 23-year-old Brigid Kosgei of Kenya with a time of 02:20:22. The third spot went to American Jordan Hasay.

Aside her gold medal, Dibaba will walk away with $100,000 prize money. The second and third candidates get $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.

She has won several laurels for the East African country at the Olympics and in other international competitions.




Amongst her successes are: three Olympic gold medals, she is nine-time world champion and world record holder over 5,000m.

She took to social media platform, Twitter, to express her delight after the race. Dibaba in April this year run 2:17:56 to finish second at the London Marathon, she was beaten by record-breaking Kenyan competitor Mary Keitany who finished the race in 2:17:01.
